The
enzymes that
catalyze the removal
of ubiquitin from native conjugates, ubiquitin C-terminal extension
peptides, ubiquitin precursor proteins, linear poly-ubiquitin
fusions or disassembly of ubiquitin chains are known as
deconjugating enzymes (or deubiquitinating enzymes, DUBs). There
are also enzymes that specifically hydrolyze C-terminal isopeptide
bonds for ubiquitin-like proteins: SUMO-specific proteases (SENPs),
NEDD8-specific proteases (NEDP1,
COP9 signalosome) and ISG15-specific proteases (UBP43).
